Because there is no room for the storage of her suddenly deceased husband Don Lucio in the
cramped little home of Eloisa, Dona Isabel off ers up her home for use. However, it is not mourning
but long nurtured hate that breaks out, and the presence of the dead brings to light uncomfortable
truths, shamefully concealed secrets, fears, hidden desires and unfulfilled yearnings.
While the widow enjoys her newly gained freedom her neighbors settle their drastic accounts
with the dead,
a denunciator and pursuer of Franco’s regime. This is a bitter, poetic tragicomedy
about the attitudes of a fishing village on the Canary
Islands in the 1960’s.
