The fi rst part of the seminar is designed for Czech exhibitors. It will introduce a system of fi nancial support from Europa Cinemas, a European cinema network, which provides subsidies to cinemas screening European non-national fi lms. In the Czech Republic, eighteen cinema theatres are already using this kind of support and one of the seminar’s objectives is to increase this number further.
Ivo Andrle will present a project of live transmissions from the Metropolitan Opera, which became part of the programme of the Aero cinema in Prague, and Alexander Syllaba will present the Austrian cinema Paradiso, which was granted a prestigious Europa Cinemas Award for Best Initiative for Young Audiences in 2007 and whose activities could be inspiring for Czech exhibitors. Alexander Stolz, Senior Executive for Distribution and Exhibition at the UK Film Council, will present the process of cinema digitisation in the UK, titled Digital Screen Network. He will speak about the experience with gradual digitisation of cinema theatres and its positive and negative aspects, and he will explain the direct impact of digitisation on the operation and programming of traditional cinemas and multiplex theatres, as well as the institutional role in this process. This part of the seminar will be open also to distributors and representatives of the relevant organisations.
